Travel to Santorini in 2020!

Santorini Santorini car rental is an island which can be described in three words; wonderful, romantic, unique. It welcomes millions of visitors from all over the world every summer. Most people mention it for its unique sunset with its beautiful colors, they photograph it and advertise it with amazing photos or videos. If you want to discover it you will find much more besides the sunset on the caldera.
An island full of beauties and we could very happily enjoy it every year without getting hurt, discovering different aspects of it each time. The beautiful waters, the wonderful view, the way the houses are built, their white color, the blue of the sea, the boats that go and come to the surrounding islands, the delicious food, the gorgeous wine and so much more.

You can see people of all ages and nationalities where everyone comes for their own reasons. Maybe to taste a romantic dinner with local food with fruit wines, to have fun with friends, to photograph the sunset, to get to know its culture.

One can discover how the houses are climbed, the huge rocks, the wonderful view to the bottom of the sea. In addition it is possible to find budget accommodation as much as this is considered a myth for the expensive Aegean island.

How to get to Santorini from abroad

You can visit Santorini by ferry from the port of Piraeus the distance is (128 nautical miles or 237 km) the ticket costs from 35 to 70 euros from 4.5 to 9 hours depending on the ferry of choice. There is a connection from Rafina, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Crete and the other surrounding islands (Anafi, Amorgos (Katapola), Donoussa, Halki, Folegandros, Ios, Karpathos, Kasos, Kimolos, Koufonisia, Kos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros , Rhodes, Serifos, Sifnos, Sikinos, Sitia, Tinos, Syros).

The island has an airport located near the village of Kamari next to the Monolithos area. Regular flights are operated from Athens and charter flights from European cities. The flight from Athens lasts 30 minutes. From the port or the airport – Santorini airport car rental – there are local buses where you can also travel by taxi.

By bus the truth is that there is inconvenience and they need transfer to Fira. On the other hand, taxis are hard to find and expensive (you will definitely need to make arrangements for the route).

Where to book your accommodation in Santorini

We can divide Santorini into two parts: the West and the East. In the western part is the caldera and the villages of Oia and Thira are literally built on the edge of the cliff. The view from this side of the island is amazing and the accommodations are expensive, they have many stairs, making the ascent and descent difficult. In addition, they do not accept children under 13 years old as they are very close to the cliff.

If you are a newlyweds or a couple it is an ideal area for you. On the other hand, the Eastern side of the island has similarities with the other islands of the Cyclades. Accommodation here is cheaper and it is good to make reservations on time.

It is good to know that most hotels close in winter. They usually open in April and close in October. We suggest not to visit the island in the full season such as July and August because it is very crowded on the roads and generally there is slow service and inconvenience. Definitely in the low season you can enjoy the island better and maybe it is more quiet.
